Basic Rules of Soccer

• Each team consists of 11 players including the goal keeper.

• The game is played in 2 halves 45 minutes each. ( depending on age group)

• If game ends in tie extra time will be played. If still tie then penalty kicks.

• Players must wear soccer cleats and shin guards.

• You score by kicking the ball or heading the ball into the other teams goal.

• If the ball touches your hand it is a hand ball.

Free Kicks

Free kicks are awarded when there is a handball or a foul committed.

There are 2 types of free kicks, Indirect or Direct.

Direct

• the ball is aloud to be kicked straight into the goal

Indirect

• The ball must touch another player before shot straight into the net.
• The Referee will hold his hand up at the place where the foul was committed to indicate Indirect.

Offsides

   Offsides in soccer is determined when the ball is kicked rather than when the player receives the ball. In order to be offsides, a player must be on their attacking half of the field, be involved in the play, and be closer to the goal line than the ball and any of the opposing team's players. Offsides does not apply on corner kicks, throw ins, and goal kicks. If offsides is called, the opposing team gets a free kick wherever the offsides player was when he was offsides. If the player is level with his last opponent, he is not offsides.
